Places to Explore

Salisbury

Salisbury is exciting! It has excellent shopping, good places to eat and a magnificent Cathedral celebrating its 750th Anniversary in 2008.

How Do I Get There? Salisbury is approximately 24 miles from Dilton Marsh directly south on the A36. It's an easy drive through lovely countryside with the Wyle River and its valley accompanying you. We suggest you plan to use the Park & Ride facility just north of Wilton to get into the city as parking, as you might imagine, is difficult. Leave your car in the secure car park and ride the comfortable bus to the city center for a fee of L2.50. Click on the Park & Ride link for details and schedules.

WellsWells

A short drive from Dilton Marsh, Chapmanslade or Warminster across the beautiful Mendip hills, Wells rises in the distance like vision. Market town, cathedral city and crossroads of Somerset, Wells has welcomed vistors for thousands of years.
Wells Cathedral is the centerpiece of this city. Click on this link for information and directions to the cathedral www.wellscathedral.org.uk/.
Like to walk but want a path and things to see? The Kennett & Avon Canal is your kind of place! The Canal has wonderful level walking paths on either side of the canal. There are benches along the way, perfect for a picnic lunch, reading a book, watching the locks open and shut or just enjoying the day. There is a concession stand which sells simple sandwiches, ices and soft drinks if you've forgotten your meal! Canal boats in every color and design tie up along the Canal which runs from Reading to Bristol - definately NOT a day's walk! - as boaters make their way along the length of the Canal. Make this a part of your stay in the West Country and see what helped the region become an economic success long before the M4 made its presence known.
